Not Necessity to Adopt Law on National Minorities in Azerbaijan : Chair of Parliamentary Commission

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alilzade / The Chairwoman of the Azerbaijan Parliament's Permanent Commission on Human Rights, Rabiyat Aslanova, said in Baku on 26 July that due to the absence of problems with national minorities in Azerbaijan, it is not necessary to adopt a Law on national minorities.

She stressed that one of the obligations undertaken by Azerbaijan before the Council of Europe was to adopt a Law on National Minorities. "However, I do not consider it necessary because currently there are no problems with national minorities in Azerbaijan. Presently Azerbaijan is a tolerant country of all religions and national minorities and there never has been or will be any such problems," she said.

According to Aslanova, the issue of national minorities is the focus of attention of the OSCE, the Council of Europe and other international organizations that set Azerbaijan as an example for other countries.
