Day of Power Engineering Specialists to be Marked in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S. Aliyev / The Head of Azerenerji JSC, Etibar Pirverdiyev, said on 19 October that 20 October will be marked in Azerbaijan as the Day of Power Engineering Specialists. He said that currently serious efforts are being carried out in the country to establish new electricity facilities.

According to him, the construction of the 506MWt combined-cycle plant is planned to be completed in the Sumgayit Electricity Station. In addition, it is planned to begin constructing a new combined-cycle plant with a capacity of 400MWt in the Shimal Electricity Station. Reconstruction is expected to be carried out to increase the production in the Mingachevir and Alibayramli electricity plants.

In addition, Azerenerji carries out large contracts with distribution networks in forty-six regions. Pirverdiyev said that installing metres has been completed in these regions and it led to a 14% decrease in electricity consumption (nearly 2.5bln KWt/h), which amounts to AZN $300mln. Moreover, in the near future, Azerenerji plans to carry out pilot projects in Ganja and other regions to install metres using the pre-payment system.

Electricity production in Azerbaijan began in 1873. In 1915, the Country took third place for developing its electricity production capacity. Azerenerji was established in 1935 and this year, will mark seventy-second anniversary.
