Azerbaijan, Baku, September 7 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR will test two additional aggregates thank to an increase in a gas-injection compressor station's capacity (SKS-2) at a large offshore oil and gas field 'Oil Rocks' in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea in the very near future, SOCAR said on September 7.

"The operations to install additional compressors have been completed. At present, their set-up is underway. The operations to test the new equipment are planned to be held over several weeks," a source said.

Increasing the capacity of this compressor station is one of items on the list for SOCAR's gas program for 2009.

After the operations are completed, the station's capacity will be increased to 11 million cubic meters per day compared to present 7.4 million cubic meters (an increase of 3.6 million cubic meters).

At present, there are 12 operating aggregates at the station. A decision was made to increase the station's capacity due to lack of reserve aggregates that could be used during prophylactic examination.

The 'Oil Rocks' offshore field was the first field where Azerbaijan launched offshore oil extraction. Its reserves are large.

SOCAR's geologists said that the volume of oil at 'Oil Rocks' was 30 million tons. In total 21 wells are planned to be drilled in this field in 2009 in order to to increase and support output.

Azerbaijan has 57 oil and gas fields, including 18 offshore wells. SOCAR has more than 62, 000 employees.
