By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will finance a large-scale project worth 90 million euros in Georgia to strengthen the power transmission network, Trend reports via the prime minister's press office.

This project envisages construction of a Nenskra 500/220/35 kV substation in Svaneti, the Nenskra-Mestia power line, the Lajanuri-Tskaltubo 500 kV power line and the Tskaltubo-Namahwani and Namakhvani-Tvishi-Lajanuri 220 kV transmission lines.

This agreement was reached at a meeting of representatives of the government of Georgia with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which was held in a video conference format on May 26.

It was decided to sign the corresponding contract next month, after which a tender for construction will be announced.

As reported, EBRD will continue to actively cooperate with the Georgian government in the post-crisis period, and ongoing joint projects aimed at developing the country will be implemented without hindrance.

EBRD Regional Director for the South Caucasus Catarina Bjorlin Hansen and EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Matteo Patrone participated in the video conference.

From the Georgian side, the meeting was attended by Minister of Finance of Georgia Ivane Machavariani, Advisor to the prime minister of Georgia on Economic Affairs Beka Liluashvili, Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia Nikoloz Gagua and Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia David Tvalabeishvili.
