A Consultant of the Department for Co-ordination of Activities of State Institutions of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Gulam Abdullayev, informed Trend on February 2nd that at present Azerbaijan is not interested in using the Kazakh satellite KazSat.

According to him, a proposal by the Kazakh side was received by the Production Union Teleradio in the summer of 2006.

We consider that using the satellite KazSat is not effective for Azerbaijan due to its area of coverage. Currently we are using the services of large European satellite companies. We may lose if we refuse their services and use the Kazakh satellite, which covers Middle Asia, Caucasus and central parts of the Russian Federation, Abdullayev said.

He said that the prices offered by the Kazakh side are not low. Presently Azerbaijan has its own sources and there is no necessity to use the Kazakh satellite, Abdulayev said.
