Member of the UK Parliament for Aldridge-Brownhills, Minister for European Neighbourhood & the Americas Wendy Morton and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a telephone conversation on July 23, 2020, Trend reports via the Turkmen ministry.

The parties discussed the possibility of further expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection.

In this regard, they pointed out that Turkmenistan pays special attention to environmental safety issues, in particular, to the Aral sea problem. For solving this problem Turkmenistan works within the framework of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the report says.

Among the talks, the sides also discussed the bilateral cooperation, in particular cooperation in trade and economic relations.

The parties also discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation within international organizations, in particular within the UN.

In addition, parties stressed the importance of the Turkmenistan-UK Trade & Industry Council (TUKTIC), during which issues of trade and economic cooperation in various sectors of the economy are considered.

International cooperation in countering the pandemic was also considered.

As earlier a foreign office spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UK told Trend, Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom have established new ties in sectors such as the creative economy.

The spokesperson pointed out that the new ties were established despite the global challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Generally, the UK continues to work with Turkmenistan in a number of areas such as energy, education, agriculture and finance.

The main Turkmen sectors of interest to the United Kingdom investors are oil, gas and chemicals. Also, the sides have a number of ongoing projects in particular in agricultural technology and the energy sectors.
