Five countries account for 66% of Iran’s imports

Iran purchased 66 percent of its totally imported goods during the last fiscal year (ended March 20) from five countries - China, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Turkey and Switzerland.

China was the main exporter of goods to Iran in the mentioned period. Beijing's exports accounted for 25.2 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value.

Iran imported $10.45 billion worth of goods from China during the 12-month period, according to the latest statistics released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI).

China exports to Iran witnessed a fall of 17 percent in terms of value, according to the report.

Iran also imported $7.84 billion worth of goods from the UAE (29 percent fall), which marks 18.9 percent of Iran's total imports' value.

South Korea, Turkey, and Swiss exported $3.68 billion, $3.01 billion, and $2.54 billion worth of goods respectively to Tehran.

South Korea exports to Iran indicates a decrease by 14 percent, meanwhile imports from Switzerland registered a rise by 8 percent.

Iran's imports from Turkey also recorded a fall by 20 percent year on year.

Besides Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and France were also other European countries which took place among top exporters of goods to Tehran in last fiscal year.

Germany was second top European goods exporter to Iran with $1.81 billion worth of exports (indicating a fall by 22 percent), followed by Italy ($907 million worth of goods, 14 percent fall), Netherlands ($787 million, 23 percent fall), and France ($760 million, 35 percent increase).

Iran imported $41.5 billion worth of goods during last fiscal year (ended March 20), which indicates a 22.5 percent decline, compared to the preceding year.
