Iran says differences with European countries negotiable

Tehran, Iran, August 23

By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

There are some differences between Iran and a number of European countries which are negotiable in an interactive atmosphere and with realistic approach, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

"This is a fact that Iran is a player in the regional and international arenas," he stressed, IRNA reported August 23.

The fact that European delegations travel to Tehran and also the fact that the UK Embassy in Tehran and Iranian Embassy in London are being reopened testify to Iran's influence, Zarif said.

He made the remarks before the reopening of the UK embassy in Tehran where he will host British counterpart Phillip Hammond.

"We meant to neutralize our relations with the world, except for special cases. We did not close the UK Embassy, they did so themselves," the Iranian FM said.

Britain closed its Embassy in Tehran after students stormed the building and drew the British flag down. The incident followed unrest that came in the wake of the disputed 2009 presidential elections.

Tehran had then accused the UK of stirring opposition amid the unrest.
