Iran and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic have discussed the ways for strengthening cooperation in dealing with disasters, Iran's envoy to Nakhchivan told Trend Apr. 27.

Iran's Consul General in Nakhchivan Mansour Airom and, the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Maj-Gen Shamo Abdullayev met on April 26 to discuss the expansion of cooperation between the Islamic Republic and Nakhchivan.

At the meeting, Mansour Airom expressed Iran's readiness to provide Nakhchivan with rescue equipment, as well as portable solar power systems.

Stating that the National Disaster Management Organization is in charge of dealing with disasters in the Islamic Republic, Airom called for exchanging experiences between provincial offices of the Iranian organization and Nakhchivan's Emergency Situations Ministry.

In turn, Shamo Abdullayev pointed to the latest agreements between the two sides on cooperation in dealing with disastrous events and said that possible natural disasters will impact both Iran and Nakhchivan as they are located in a same geographical area.

Therefore, the sides need to consider the necessity of cooperation in dealing with natural disasters, added Abdullayev.

Saying that Nakhchivan provided Iran's East Azerbaijan Province with humanitarian aid when earthquake jolted the province in 2012, Abdullayev welcomed expansion of ties with the neighboring Iran.
