The US Senate will hold public hearings next week on US President Barack Obama's call for Congress to debate the use of limited military force against Syria, Senator Harry Reid said Saturday, dpa reported.
The hearings will be held in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Reid said in a statement. Senior Obama administration officials are expected to testify at the hearings, giving the public an opportunity to hear from them.
Reid said other members of the Senate would convene both classified and unclassified briefings for senators throughout next week.
"The Senate will engage in this critical debate right away," Reid said. A vote on Obama's proposal however still is expected after Congress returns from recess on September 9.
