Americans helping Ukraine to make coal mines safer

(ForUm) - An American delegation, participants in the Ukrainian - American program "Mine Safety in Ukraine" toured the Luhansk region, having exchanged with the Ukrainian side ideas of cooperation in anchoring roof of mine tunnel with using American technologies, Cabinet press office informs.

The American side, being represented by the United States Department of Labor, the PEER company and scientists of the Kentucky University, assumed the project financing.

The Ukrainian - American cooperation, launched five years ago allowed to successfully realize projects in mine tunnel rock dusting, introduction of modern technologies and materials in the system of mine ventilation. The two next directions: degassing coal beds and mine tunnel dead-ending are slated for 2007 and 2008. The first one will be applied at Donetsk mine and the second one in Luhansk, reports Trend.

The PEER CEO, by way of talking about the strategic task of cooperation, stressed that it is aimed at decreasing mine accidents in Ukraine and unveiled the company's intent to invest 8 M. USD into the project.
