Azerbaijan sees increase in polyethylene and polypropylene production

Azerbaijan produced 68,100 metric tons of polyethylene in Jan.-Sept. 2014, which is 23.7 percent more than in the same period of 2013, the country's State Statistical Committee said in its report for the first nine months of 2014.

Around 39,600 metric tons of propylene was produced in Azerbaijan in Jan.-Sept., which is 38.1 percent more than in the same period of 2013, according to the report.

The country produced 76,000 metric tons of polyethylene in 2013, or 13.9 percent more than in 2012.

However, Azerbaijan saw decrease in the production of other major types of chemical products in Jan.-Sept. 2014.

The country produced 12,680 metric tons of solid polyethylene pipes, tubes and hoses, which is 41.9 percent less than the same period of 2013.

At the same time, some 164.5 metric tons of porous polyurethane plates and strips were produced in Azerbaijan during the reporting period, which is 65.1 percent less than in Jan.-Sept. 2013.
