The cooperation between Iran and Turkey will contribute to the development of the entire region, according to Turkish President, Abdullah Gul.

President Gul made the remarks at a press conference held after his meeting with Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, TRT Haber TV channel reported on June 9.

Iranian president embarked on a two-day visit to Turkey on June 9. Rouhani is visiting Turkey at an invitation of Turkish President, Abdullah Gul.

Gul said the Iranian president's visit to Turkey will even further strengthen relations between Ankara and Tehran.

"Iranian president's visit to Turkey is historical, and it will further strengthen relations between Ankara and Tehran," Gul stressed.

He underscored that Iran with its economic potential is a very important neighbor for Turkey.

Gul said his meeting with Rouhani and discussion of economic and regional issues show the level of bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey.

Rouhani is also expected to meet with Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on June 9.
