Uzbekistan, Cyprus sign package of agreements

Uzbekistan and Cyprus have signed a number of intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in combating crime, in health and medical science and tourism, as well as a protocol on cooperation between both countries’ foreign ministries on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said.

Uzbekistan and Cyprus have signed a number of intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in combating crime, in health and medical science and tourism, as well as a protocol on cooperation between both countries' foreign ministries on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said.

The documents were signed during Foreign Minister of Cyprus Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis's visit to Uzbekistan.

According to the Foreign Ministry, during the talks held at there, the parties discussed issues of bilateral relations in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Also the parties' cooperation within the UN, other international and regional organisations and stressed the proximity and coincidence of the parties' positions on almost all issues.

Prospects for strengthening mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union were considered through the prism of Cyprus's forthcoming EU presidency.

The parties also confirmed the presence of mutual interest in further deepening of the Uzbek-Cyprus dialogue in various spheres including direct contacts between law enforcement agencies and medical institutions of both countries.

One of the priority directions of cooperation is tourism, where Cyprus has accumulated considerable experience in attracting and servicing foreign visitors, creating an up-to-date infrastructure and training highly qualified specialists.

As was previously reported, the first visit's schedule of the Foreign Minister of Cyprus includes meetings and discussions in both houses of the Uzbek Parliament, ministries of foreign economic relations, investments and trade.
