Baku, Azerbaijan, May 8
By Ilkin Izzet - Trend:
Air defense drills were held at an 'S- 300 Favorite' anti-aircraft missile systems military unit of Azerbaijani air forces.
Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry told Trend on Thursday, May 8, that the drills are aimed at
evaluating the military personnel's ability to perform combat assignments correctly.
Within the drills scenario, the combat control unit received information about an enemy aircraft which intruded into the airspace. Then the data on the targets were sent to the S-300 divisions.
Afterwards the targets were detected in time and destroyed with conditional shots from S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems. The S-300 is a series of initially Soviet and later Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems.
It was designed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet air defense forces and is currently regarded as one of the most potent anti-aircraft missile systems.
