The leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) was assaulted at the Parliament in Ankara before his party group meeting, April 8 Hurriyet Daily News reported .

An assailant, believed to be a visitor, has thrown two punches to Kemal Kilicdaroglu according to initial reports.

The attacker was detained by the police after the incident.

Kilicdaroglu appeared on the rostrum a few minutes after the attack, apparantly doing well.

"Pressure and violence will not hinder us. We won't step back," he said after taking the floor.
