A NATO airstrike in south-eastern Afghanistan killed four police officers and wounded a teenager, an Afghan government official said Thursday, dpa reported.

Captain Luca Carnael, a NATO spokesman, said: "We are collecting facts at the moment," but did not confirm whether the alliance had conducted an airstrike in Ghazni province.

The strike in the district of Deh Yak on Wednesday had targeted a local police checkpoint, said Fazal Mohammad Sabawoon, the provincial governor's spokesman.

"Four local policemen who were on duty to search a vehicle on the road become the victim of the NATO airstrike," he said, and that a teenage boy was injured.
