Hundreds of demonstrators protesting against the results of February 18 presidential elections in Armenia remain at Freedom Square, despite an appeal to disperse and reconvene at 17:00 on Friday from Heritage party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan, News-Armenia reported.

Hundreds of demonstrators protesting against the results of February 18 presidential elections in Armenia remain at Freedom Square, despite an appeal to disperse and reconvene at 17:00 on Friday from Heritage party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan, News-Armenia reported.

Following a meeting with the head of state held at the presidential residence on Thursday, Hovannisian called on his supporters to disperse and meet tomorrow at a sanctioned rally in Freedom Square.

However, several hundred protesters, headed by the deputy of Armenian National Congress, Nikol Pashinian, remained at the Freedom Square. The number of participants is increasing.
Pashinyan himself refused to comment on the further actions of the protesters to News Armenia.

Hovannisian, who does not recognize the results of February 18 presidential elections decided to meet with Sargsyan on Thursday.

He recently stated that together with his supporters, he will await for the arrival of the incumbent president "for a voluntary transfer of power" at Freedom Square. However, on Thursday he himself went to the residence of the head of state, accompanied by hundred supporters.

Today's meeting with the president took place behind closed doors, without participation of journalists. Hovannisian's son and his personal cameraman were also allowed in the president's residence.

Raffi Hovannisian, who ran in the presidential election on February 18 and rated second, according to official data, does not recognize the election results and wants to hold a rally at Freedom Square on February 22.

Presidential elections were held in Armenia on Feb.18. Incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan won the presidential elections winning 58.64 per cent of the vote. The First Foreign Minister of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian ranked second winning 36.75 per cent, while former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan ranked third after receiving 2.15 per cent of the vote.
