Trend:

Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian will leave for Germany on Feb.5-7 to take part in the Munich Security Conference, Armenian media reported citing the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of Armenian Foreign Ministry.

Nalbandian is expected to meet with OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Munich.

It should be noted that last week, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Krakow, Poland and discussed the ways of settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Minsk Group, the activities of which have become known as the Minsk Process, spearheads OSCE's efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. It is co-chaired by France, the Russian Federation, and the United States.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
