Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov tasked the parliament to develop the democratic values and jural society in the country.

"The parliament has an important role as the country's supreme legislature in promoting a democratic and jural society," Berdimuhammedov said at the last governmental meeting.

"The parliament also plays a big role in promoting the constructive initiatives of the Turkmen state in the international arena," Berdimuhammedov said.

The new leadership, which came to power in 2007, has promised the liberalization of civil society and the economy to its citizens. The Constitution was included an article about a gradual transition to a market economy, and the main slogan of the government become "the state for a people".

In turn, Parliamentary Speaker Akja Nurberdiyeva stressed that the work was intensified on improving the national legislation.

"In this regard, we initiated a project in partnership with the European Union, which focuses on strengthening Turkmenistan's national potential to promote and protect human rights in the country," he said.

The UN also supports the Turkmen government in strengthening the potential of the national parliament, the Academy of State Service of Turkmenistan, improving local governance and creating an electronic control system for sustainable human development.
