The release of journalists imprisoned in Azerbaijan must not be timed to the National Press Day, Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov said today.

The release of journalists imprisoned in Azerbaijan must not be timed to the National Press Day, Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov said today.

He said Commission on Pardons functions in Azerbaijan, which addresses the issue of prisoners' release. The Commission considers all appeals received by the structure.

"I don't see any need to time this issue to the National Press Day," Ali Hasanov said.

President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to celebrate the 135-th anniversary of Azerbaijani National Press.

According to the decree, the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration is instructed jointly with the Fund for State Support for Media Development under Azerbaijani President and the Azerbaijani Press Council to ensure holding commemorative events in Baku and the country's regions. Also it's instructed based on media organizations and editorial staff's recommendations to submit proposals on awarding the journalists, who have special merits in development of the Azerbaijani national press to the President of the Azerbaijan Republic in a month.
