Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Rovshan Mustafayev, the Director of the Institute of Human Rights of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, reported on 26 April that special documents would be submitted to the European Court on Human Rights regarding the infringement of property rights of the Azerbaijanis evicted from Armenia. The Institute of Human Rights received about 200 appeals in this connection. According to Mustafayev, the documents are under development and will be sent to the European Court soon.
The appeal reflects Azerbaijan's demand for Armenia to compensate for the infringement of the Azerbaijanis' property rights. The amount of the compensation demanded is estimated at billions of mantas.
In 1988-1989, over 200,000 Azerbaijanis were evicted from Armenia by force.
