TEHRAN, Iran, June 29. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has stressed accelerating the Shalamche- Basra railway construction in his recent meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Trend reports citing ISNA.
The Iranian President has pointed out at his joint press conference with the Iraqi official that the two sides have agreed to implement the Shalamche-Basra railway project.
Raisi has indicated launching the Shalamche-Basra railway will increase trade between the two countries.
According to Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi, about $100 of $120 million has been predicted for railway construction that would be shared 50/50 by the two countries.
The Shalamcheh-Basra railway will connect Iraq to Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Far East.
