Turkish Investments into   Azerbaijan’s Non-Oil Sector Exceeds $830mln: Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynov / Azerbaijan's Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, said on 7 November at the Azerbaijani-Turkish business-forum that the Turkish investments into the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan in the period of 1995-2006 amounted to $838.8mln.

Currently more than 400 Turkish companies involving 5.000 Turkish and 50.000 Azerbaijani citizens function in Azerbaijan.

According to the Minister, generally the Turkish companies have realized large-scale projects in Azerbaijan totaling $1.5bln.

The Turkish companies are actively involved in the telecommunication, banking sectors of Azerbaijan and five banks function in the Country with the participation of Turkish investments.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey made up $773mln in 2006. The trade turnover over the six months amounted to $550mln.

The business-forum, which is taking place in Baku, is attended by 200 Turkish and 250 Azerbaijani business people.
