Azerbaijan’s industrial production tops 2.6 billion manat in Jan-Feb

In January-February 2009, industrial production [goods manufactured and industrial services rendered] in Azerbaijan hit 2.67 billion manat, a 34.2-percent fall from the same period in 2008, the State Statistics Committee said on March 16.

In this period, extractive industry production dropped by 2.6 percent to 1.63 billion manats with 61.1 percent of specific weight. Processing industry production fell by 3.4 percent to 781.69 million manats (29.3 percent) and 256.8 million manats fell to power engineering with 0.2-percent drop (9.6 percent).

Oil production dropped by 3.6 percent and oil refinery - by 39.1 percent. Gas production upped by 34.1 percent.

During the reported period, metallurgical industry and finished products production experienced a 39.1-percent fall, chemical production - a 72.5-percent decline, leather and leather goods production - a 58-percent decline.

Private sector share in total industrial production was 73.6 percent (1.96 billion manat) in January-February 2009. Decline in the private sector was at 2.1 percent, while state industry experienced a 4-percent fall.

On March 16, the official exchange rate is 0.8045 manat to $1.
