Uzbekistan, Tashkent, March 27 / Trend D. Azizov /

Shops selling alcoholic beverages within 500 metres from educational, sports and religious institutions must relocate in Uzbekistan by October 1, 2012, the governmental regulation enforcing measures to implement the law on the 'Restriction of alcohol and tobacco product distribution and consumption'.

This law was adopted in October 2011 when six months was allowed for it to come into force.
The law prohibits the selling of alcohol and tobacco to people under-20 and within 500 metres of educational institutions and the advertising of alcohol and tobacco products. It is also prohibited to consume alcohol and smoke in public and workplaces.

According to the present governmental regulation, operating trade facilities can deal with the retail sale of alcohol and tobacco products until October 1. They can do this in accordance with previously issued permits prior to their relocation.

The government has established a working group to revise the placement of existing trading facilities selling alcohol.

The group should list all shops offering retail sales of alcoholic beverages and prepare proposals for their relocation to new sites.
