Ninth plenary session of negotiations in order to develop the text of the Association Agreement between Georgia and the EU was held.

The first round of negotiations with regard to a deep and comprehensive free trade space (DC FTA) was held during the session, the press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to Trend on Thursday.

The sides discussed the preamble of the agreement, the issues of political dialogue and reform, cooperation in the sphere of common foreign and security policy, justice, freedom and security, as well as institutional, general and final provisions at the meeting.

It also summarized the progress achieved in the third working group (financial, economic and sectoral cooperation) and results of ongoing negotiations with regard to the DC FTA.

Georgian delegation was headed by chief negotiator of the Georgian side, Deputy Foreign Minister Tornike Gordadze. The delegation also included representatives of relevant departments in Georgia.

European delegation was headed by chief negotiator of the European side, the deputy managing director for Europe and Central Asia, European External Action Service Gunnar Wiegand.

The future agreement between Georgia and the EU will replace the existing agreement on partnership and cooperation between the parties and provides a significant deepening of relations and cooperation on a new, qualitatively higher level.

The agreement will give Georgia the possibility of political association and gradual economic integration into the EU.
