Exports of eggs from Turkey increased by 65 per cent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, reaching 91.5 million, the council of exporters of Turkey said on Thursday.

Iraq ranks first among the importers of eggs from Turkey with every 90 out of 100 eggs exported by Turkey being sent to for Iraq.

The second largest importer of eggs from Turkey is Azerbaijan. It is followed by Israel, Syria and the free economic zone. In general, Turkey exported eggs to 17 countries in January-March.

Azerbaijan imported eggs worth $11.5 million from Turkey in 2011. The country plans to begin exports of breeding eggs to neighbouring countries during 2012.

Statistics for 2009 show that in 2009 that there was a need for 60 million breeding eggs, 40-45 per cent of which were provided by local production and the rest imported, executive director of the National Fund for Entrepreneurship Support (NFES) under the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan Shirzad Abdullayev told Trend previously.

"The opportunity to export domestic products in addition to covering domestic demand means that 60 million eggs will be created since 2012" Abdullayev said.

In this regard, NFES funded projects tare helping to develop the country's poultry farms.
