Unemployment rate decreases in Kazakhstan

The unemployment rate in Kazakhstan was at 5.3 percent in 2012 compared to 5.4 percent in 2011, according to a report released by the Agency of Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Thursday.

The unemployment rate in Kazakhstan was at 5.3 percent in 2012 compared to 5.4 percent in 2011, according to a report released by the Agency of Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Thursday.

According to the report, the number of unemployed in the country amounted to 474,800in 2012. The percentage of unemployed men totaled 39.7 percent, women - 60.3 percent.

Youth unemployment in the 15-24 age group, according to the statistics agency, was at 3.9 percent compared to 4.6 percent in 2011, in the 15-28 age group - 5.4 percent versus 6.3 percent in 2011.

According to the report, the employment offices of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Kazakhstan officially registered 34,600 unemployed by late 2012. The proportion of the registered unemployed was 0.4 percent of the economically active population (0.4 percent in 2011).
