The Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association is working to increase the yield of pomegranate in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Association Farhad Garashov told Trend June 4.

"Today, in Azerbaijan, 5-10 tons of pomegranates are collected from one hectare of the territory. This indicator is not high enough, and we intend to increase it by several times to 25-30 tons. This can be achieved by introducing new ways of pruning and fertilizing trees, and by using new technologies. For this we have conducted training in the regions of Azerbaijan, with the participation of foreign experts from Turkey and Israel," the chairman of the Association said.

Garashov noted that the Association intends to continue such practice.

"We intend to attract more specialists from countries with highly developed agriculture. The training will mainly be held before the start of the season and after it. In addition, we intend to make a special manual, in which the following will be indicated – what medicines, fertilizers and irrigation methods should be used in certain times of the year," said Garashov.

The Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association was established on October 31, 2016. It brings together 28 members.
