The Russian TVEL company shipped nuclear fuel for the research reactor of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

"Our customer form Uzbekistan received 56 six-tube IRT-4M fuel assemblies produced by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant," the press service of TVEL said.

Arrangements for the supply of nuclear fuel were concluded in November 2017, when the parties signed a contract for production and supply of fuel for the mentioned reactor.

Rosatom and the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan also signed a memorandum of understanding, which states the parties' intention to develop cooperation in a wide range of areas related to the practical application of nuclear technologies and training of personnel.

The research reactor has been operating at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan since 1959. Since its commissioning, it has been provided with Russian-made nuclear fuel.

The desire of Uzbekistan to actively develop the peaceful nuclear program was confirmed by the CEO of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexei Likhachev, who recently visited Tashkent and held talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Likhachev said that Uzbekistan is now reloading the work of its research reactor, also trying to launch the training of Uzbek specialists in Russia.
