Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 20

By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:

The queues at checkpoints at the borders of Uzbekistan have more than halved since the introduction of new regulations for duty-free import of products by individuals, Trend reports on Dec. 20 referring to Uzbek media.

The statement was made by head of the Directorate for the Organization of Customs Control of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan Rustam Kabulov.

“Before the adoption of the new standards, the situation at checkpoints was really tense. There were queues that became a serious challenge for the elderly and young children. This situation arose because of people who abused the opportunities provided and brought goods from neighboring countries to Uzbekistan constantly. After the introduction of the new regulations for duty-free import, the queues have more than halved,” he said on the sidelines of a press conference in Tashkent.

Today, according to Kabulov, it takes about one and a half to two minutes for a person to undergo customs procedures at checkpoints.

Uzbekistan has introduced the new regulations for duty-free import of products by individuals through the road (pedestrian), railway and river checkpoints since Oct. 17.

Now Uzbeks can deliver one unit of household appliances once every six months (previously – once a month), as well as two kilograms of food and other goods, but not more than 10 kilograms of total weight, once a month (earlier – once a day).
