It is planned to allocate 42 million manats during 2019 within the framework of the Self-Employment Program in Azerbaijan, Fuad Musayev, chief of the State Employment Service under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of Azerbaijan, told Trend.

According to him, this figure stood at 35 million manats last year.

"The Unemployment Insurance Fund is currently financing the program. The program is implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population in accordance with the orders of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Last year, 7,000 citizens were enlisted to the program, 1,000 of whom were from among the youth. The remaining 6,000 were middle-aged citizens, members of the families of martyrs being among them," Musayev said.

Musayev noted that this year’s Self-Employment Program also considers the participation of 7,000 Azerbaijani citizens.

"The program is being mainly implemented in various regions of the country in order to reduce unemployment there, with the opening of new jobs. The project was initially launched in Jabrayil and Fuzuli districts, with the engagement of residents living in border areas. The self-employment program, however, covers not only the regions of the country, but the capital as well," Musayev said.

Musayev noted that, with the implementation of the Self-Employment Program, farms and other fields of the agrarian sector are developing in the regions, and added that a draft for the "Employment Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2030" project has been developed.
