Iran's middle pharmaceutical companies try to cash in amid coronavirus spread

TEHRAN, Iran, Feb 25

Trend:

Iran has sufficient amount of face masks and antiseptics that would become available to people in the coming days, said managing director for distribution at Iranian Food and Drug Administration, Ali Razan, Trend reports via ILNA.

He admitted that purchases in drug stores of Iran have increased, and at some point there were shortages of masks and certain medicines.

"The lack of masks and antiseptics was due to intermediary companies that are not under supervision of the Iranian Food and Drug Administration and unofficially deal drugs in the market and abuse the situation by increasing prices," he added.

Razan said that the organization has launched inspections regarding the increased prices.

Iran is one of the recent countries, affected by the rapidly-spreading coronavirus. According to recent reports from the Iranian officials, over 90 people have been infected, 15 people have already died.

The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread.

Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.

Following the reports of coronavirus spread in the Islamic Republic, several countries have taken measures, including closing borders and banning flights.

Meanwhile, the WHO (World Health Organization) has offered its help to Iran, providing certain medicine to the infected.
