Georgia sees increase in PPI for Industrial Products

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products increased by 1.9 percent in September 2020 in Georgia compared to the previous month, Trend reports referring to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The prices for manufactured products increased by 1 percent compared to August 2020, resulting in a 0.81 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change. Within the group, noteworthy price increases were registered for food products (1.5 percent) and basic metals (2.3 percent).

In the same period, the prices for water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services increased by 20.1 percent contributing 0.57 percentage points to the monthly index change. The prices increased also for electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning by 5 percent, contributing 0.47 percentage points to the monthly index change.

As reported, compared to September 2019 the index growth amounted to 5.9 percent.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the manufactured products: the prices increased by 4.8 percent, contributing 3.88 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. There was a notable increase in the prices for the following subgroups: food products (8.1 percent), beverages (5.2 percent), and other non-metallic mineral products (6.9 percent).

The prices on products from mining and quarrying were 19.6 percent higher, contributing 1.06 percentage points to the overall annual index change. Within the group, the prices were higher for metal ores (27.4 percent).

The annual price increase of water supply; sewerage, waste management, and remediation services amounted to 17.8 percent, which contributed 0.53 percentage points to the annual index growth. The annual price increase on electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning amounted to 4.2 percent, which contributed 0.42 percentage points to the annual index growth.
