BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 3

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

It is forecasted that 580,000 tons of wheat will be harvested in the Ardabil Province (northwestern Iran) in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director of Agriculture Department of Ardabil Province Khalil Nikshad said, Trend report citing the department’s website.

According to Nikshad, wheat has been planted on 290,000 hectares in Ardabil Province. Of this, 235,000 hectares were planted on dry-farming land and 55,000 hectares on irrigated land.

The director added that the volume of areas under wheat decreased slightly compared to the last planting year.

Reportedly, about 500,000 tons of wheat were harvested in Iran’s Ardabil Province in the last Iranian year (from March 2020 through March 20, 2021), despite the fact that it was planned to harvest 600,000 tons of wheat.

The farmers sold most of their wheat freely, citing a guaranteed purchase of wheat last year. Thus, only 198,000 tons of wheat were sold to the Government Trade Corporation of Iran (GTC). The price of wheat purchased from farmers in the last Iranian year is set at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram.

The agricultural products are grown on 750,000 hectares of agricultural land in Iran's Ardabil Province. About 4.5 million tons of agricultural products are grown annually in this province.
