Iran looks to continue wheat imports to secure its strategic reserves

TEHRAN, Iran, March 28. Iran is planning to import 3.5 million tons of wheat to secure its strategic reserves, said the head of the National Wheat Farmers Foundation Aligholi Imani, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Iran will continue to import wheat in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2022) due to climate change," he said.

The country is expecting to produce more than 10 million tons of wheat in the current Iranian year to reach self-sufficiency in wheat production.

The government's guaranteed price for purchase of wheat is 115,000 rials (about $2.7) per kilo in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2022).
