Kazakhstan's key task in 2009 will be to implement the Transcaspian project to transport oil to Europe, Kazakh Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sauat Minbayev said on Feb. 23.
"We have several key tasks for 2009. We aim to agree with oil companies on the basic principles that are acceptable for Kazakhstan to implement the Transcaspian project," Minbayev told the parliament.
The Kazakhstan Caspian Transportation System (KCTS) project will provide oil deliveries from the Kashagan and Tengiz fields to the Baku Port with further delivery to world markets.
"We must work on construction documents for the Eskene-Kurik oil pipeline in 2009," Minbayev said.
