Azerbaijan is not yet considering the possibility of transporting its gas through the Kazakhstan-China pipeline designed to transport natural gas from Turkmen fields to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) President Rovnag Abdullayev said today.

"This pipeline is one of the options for diversifying Turkmen gas supplies and this option [Azerbaijan's joining the pipeline] has not bee ndealt with," he added.

Earlier, representatives of Azerbaijan mentioned the possibility of transporting Azerbaijani gas to China. However, they noted that European markets are a priority. Azerbaijan is continuing talks with Turkey to reach an agreement on transporting its own gas to Europe. The southern corridor including routes like the Nabucco, ITGI and Trans Adriatic pipelines, is also priorities.

On Saturday, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his Chinese Counterpart Hu Jintao launched the Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline. The transnational pipeline's length runs 7,000 kilometers, and allow China to receive 40 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas over each of the next 30 years. The pipeline will operate with full capacity in 2012.
