BTC transports over 20 mln tons of oil in January-August

In January-July, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported more than 20.66 million tons of oil compared to 22.76 million tons in the same period of 2011, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee told Trend on Wednesday.

As of September 1, 2012, some 196.44 million tones of oil were transported through the pipeline since the beginning of its operation.

Total of 32.2 million tons of Azerbaijani oil was transported through the BTC in 2011 compared to 37 million tons in 2010.

The Turkish port of Ceyhan has sent around 19.83 million tones of oil to the world markets in January-August compared to more than 22.09 million tones in January-August 2011.

In 2011, the Turkish port of Ceyhan has sent over 32.08 million tons to the world markets compared to 37.3 million tons in 2010.

The total length of BТС is 1.768 kilometers including the 443 kilometer section running via Azerbaijan, the 249 kilometer section via Georgia and the 1.076 kilometer via Turkey.

Construction of the pipeline began in April 2003 and it was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

The shareholders of BTC are BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.90 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), TRAO (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.50 percent), ConocoPhilips (2.50 percent) and Hess (2.36 percent) (sells its share to Indian ONGC, the transaction will be completed in the first quarter of 2013).
