Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan cooperate in a number of major projects to jointly resolve energy security issues, Kazakh Chargé d'Affaires to Turkmenistan Mukhamedkali Bakbergenov said today.

The appeal is timed to the 20th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the neighboring countries.

"The two countries' commitment to a close cooperation within bilateral and regional cooperation should be stressed," the statement said. "Our countries are cooperating successfully in a number of major projects to jointly resolve the issues on energy security and diversification of energy supplies to the world markets."

The cooperation between the fuel-energy complexes of two countries is one of the strategic areas of inter-state cooperation, taking into account the huge hydrocarbon reserves and the existing transit-transport potential.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are actively cooperating in delivering energy resources to the foreign markets - Kazakh oil to the south in the direction of the Persian Gulf and the Turkmen gas - to the north in the direction of Russia, Ukraine and Europe, as well as China.

Launching the Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Kazakhstan - China gas pipeline in December 2009 was a significant event in this sphere. The gas pipeline can provide the Kazakh southern regions with gas, on the other hand, export the Turkmen gas to China.

"The Republic of Kazakhstan welcomes a trustful political dialogue with the Turkmen leader, which has recently been playing a more active role not only in Central Asia but in the international arena," Bakbergenov said.
