Iran considers academic centers to help discover new mines

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.3

Trend:

In the last ten years in Iran no large mine has been discovered, so there's a need ofr universities and scientific centers to provide help in this regard, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Alireza Shahidi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Iran holds one percent of the world's iron ore production, as well as over 20 million tons of lead and zinc production a year," Shahidi said.

He added that back in 2004 Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran studied the entire country and compiled several maps, based on the geological studies.

"The maps revealed 14 potential spots for minerals," he said.

“Many deposits in the world have been turned to the mines from years 1950 to 2016, but in Iran this takes years,” he said.

“This dilemma needs to be addressed,” Shahidi said.
