WB participating in modernization of Uzbek agricultural sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 24

Uzbekistan has reached an agreement with the World Bank on a $500 million loan to modernize agriculture, Trend reports citing the press service of the president.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke on the subject during a video conference devoted to acceleration of economic reforms in agriculture and water sector, the further development of market relations in these spheres, on July 23, 2020.

“The project will fundamentally renew the activities of eight research institutes in the agricultural sector, as well as a number of organizations of the Ministry of Agriculture, they will be equipped with modern laboratories and equipment. Investments worth $124 million from the World Bank and a grant from the EU worth $2 million will be directed to implement these measures,” the message said.

The meeting also addressed water management issues.

“It was stressed that the Ministry of Water Management should ensure timely implementation of the above tasks, attract international experts and work in a new way. Instructions were given on development of software products for complete digitalization of the industry by 2025, including control and accounting of water consumption online,” the message said.
