Cargo transportation volumes down in Kazakhstan

A total of 267.3 million tons of cargo was transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in Mar. 2021, which is 0.8 percent less than in Mar. 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of cargo transported over the first three months of 2021 amounted to 815.3 million tons, which is 5.4 percent less year-on-year compared to 843.9 million tons over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the cargo was transported in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The volume of cargo transported in the region amounted to 47.7 million tons in March and 143.5 million tons over the reporting period of 2021, which is 8.4 percent and 11 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Karaganda region is followed by the East Kazakhstan region with 45.4 million tons transported in Mar. 2021 (up by 5.9 percent compared to Mar. 2020). The volume of cargo transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 137.4 million tons, which compared to 135.9 million during the same period last year, indicates a 1.1-percent increase.

Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the cargo transported in Mar. 2021 (18.4 million tons, up by 2 percent). The volume of cargo transported in the region over three months of 2021 amounted to 56.1 million tons, which is 2.7 percent less than during the same period last year (57.7 million tons).

The least cargo volume was transported in the West Kazakhstan region. The transported cargo volume stood at 2.8 million tons of cargo in Mar. 2021, which is 50.2 percent less than in Mar. 2020. The volume of cargo transported from Jan. through Mar. 2021 was 9.4 million tons, which is 48.8 percent less year-on-year.
