By Khagan Isayev – Trend:

Wood Mackenzie international consulting company projects the share of electric vehicles in the global market to double in 2022, Trend reports citing the company.

According to company analysts, state support for the purchase of electric vehicles will weaken in 2022; Europe will continue to give up its "supercredits" and China will cut back on subsidies for electric vehicles.

“Despite this, global sales of electric vehicles will exceed 8.5 million units. Given the long-term impact of the shortage of microchips, affecting the regular sales of cars with internal combustion engines, next year, the share of electric vehicles on the market will be higher than ever,” the company said.

At the same time, according to forecasts of Wood Mackenzie analysts, the US will continue to lag behind in this matter.

"The Biden administration is trying to increase tax breaks on electric vehicles to $12,500. These benefits will continue to apply only to a few cars, since they have not been withdrawn to restrictions for individual manufacturers. The share of electric vehicles in the second-largest car market (US) in the world will grow to only six percent," the forecast says.

Wood Mackenzie started life in 1923 as an Edinburgh-based stockbroker. By the 1970s, Wood Mackenzie had become one of the top three stockbrokers in the UK, renowned for the quality of its equity research.
