Uzbekistan attracts loans worth $611.5M

The Uzbek government attracted loans worth $611.5 million from international financial institutions in January-March 2017, the country’s Finance Ministry said Apr. 21.

The Uzbek government signed six loan agreements in the first quarter of 2017 for the implementation of projects with a total cost of $845.5 million.

According to the ministry, a major part of loans - $573 million – was issued by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Meanwhile, the ADB issued a loan in the amount of $100 million to support the projects of small and medium businesses with a total cost of $133.3 million, a loan worth $198 million for the Karshi-Shahrisabz-Kitab highway reconstruction project worth $266.2 million, a $120.9-million loan – for the Tashkent Province Water Supply Development Project (stage 1 with a cost of $143.8 million), and $154 million for the Horticulture Value Chain Development Project with a total cost of $240.9 million.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development has issued a loan worth $23.87 million and a grant with a cost of $0.7 million to finance farms and dairy processors (the total cost of the project is $40.57 million).

Meanwhile, the Uzbek government signed a loan agreement worth $14 million with the World Bank (WB) in order to finance the implementation of a $20.71-million program to adapt to climate change and mitigate its consequences for the Aral Sea Basin.

According to the ministry, the Uzbek government attracted loans in the amount of $508 million in the 4Q2016 for the implementation of projects worth $809.17 million.
