Neighbors must help Syria in reform process, says Iran parliament speaker

Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said that regional countries must use every opportunity to help Syria implement reforms and tackle its problems through cooperation, Mehr news agency reported.

Larijani made the remarks on Saturday during a telephone conversation with National Assembly of Kuwait Speaker Jasem Al-Kharafi, in which the two discussed the latest developments in Syria and the rest of the region.

The necessity of supporting the process of reform in Syria and ways to resolve its problems through negotiation and consultation were the most important issues discussed by the Iranian and Kuwaiti parliament speakers.

Larijani said that the major powers do not want to see the reform process in Syria succeed and are trying to hinder the negotiations meant to resolve the crisis.

Criticizing the measures taken to exacerbate the crisis in Syria, Larijani said that these measures will not help to establish peace or increase security in the region.

Al-Kharafi said that the Kuwaiti government is trying to establish peace in the region and to resolve the Syria crisis through positive measures.

He went on to say that Israel is the sole beneficiary of the exacerbation of the crisis in Syria and the region.

The Kuwaiti parliament speaker also stated that Kuwait would make the utmost efforts to help Syria resolve its problems through negotiations.
