Iran’s staple food imports via ports increases by 34%

Iran imported 1.316 million tons of staple food products through ports during the last calendar month, ended Nov. 22.

The figure indicates a rise by 34.5 percent compared to the preceding month, according to the data released by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.‎

The food products mentioned in the report include wheat, barley, butter, soy, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and meat ‎products.

‎The country loaded and unloaded 1.403 million tons of food products at its ports in the one-month period, indicating a 5.4 percent fall year-on-year.

In the meantime, the country exported 87,086 tons of staple food products through the organization’s ports.

According to the report over 331,302 tons of fertilizers and chemicals were also loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports, which was 22.4 percent less compared to the same month of preceding year. The volume of the unloaded fertilizers and chemicals was 122,935 tons in the one-month period from Oct. 22 to Nov. 22.

Iranian ports saw loading and unloading of a total of 9.071 million tons of various goods and commodities, including food and metal products between Oct. 22 to Nov. 22, 14.9 percent less year-on-year.

In Total, some 99 million tons of various goods were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports during the current fiscal year.

The volume is 3.1 percent more than the loaded/unloaded products in the same period of preceding year (March 20-Sept. 22, 2016).
