Tehran, Iran, July 29

By A. Shirazi - Trend:

The secretary of Iranian ICT Guild Organization said the number of the country’s business start-ups is expected to almost double in 2019.

“We are hopeful that the number of Iran’s start-ups and new businesses could double in 2019 due to the government’s support and under the current circumstances,” Ali Azarkar told Trend on July 29 on the sidelines of the 24th International Exhibition of Electronics, Computer and E-Commerce, also known as ELECOMP 2018, underway in Tehran.

He added that start-ups and nascent businesses have gained foothold in Iran’s labor market.

“Nobody would have thought such businesses would one day grow and establish foothold in Iran's market,” he said, adding, “In the past two years, 60 to 70 percent of start-ups has grown into firms”.

He called on the government to increase its support for start-ups because the US returning sanctions could not affect them as they are non-governmental.

US President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in May, and Washington now plans to reimpose sanctions on Tehran next month. The first round of US sanctions on Iran goes into effect in August, followed by ones targeting Iran's oil exports in November.

“The sanctions cannot threat them and the government should help them grow fast,” Azarkar said.
