Nearly 401.3mln manat was invested in the economy of Azerbaijan in January 2010, an increase of 5.6% from the figures of the previous year.

 

The forecast of investments for 2010 totals 11315.8mln manat with an increase of 12.5%, and the factual investments in January 2010 made up 3.5%.

Major sources of investing in January 2010 were funds of enterprises and organizations (258.0mln manat with an increase of 48.5% compared to 2009), budget funds (88.2mln manat, with a drop of 31.4%), non-budgetary funds (12.4mln manat with drop of 78.7%), bank credits (29.6mln manat with a rise of 3.9 times) and community funds (13.1mln, with an increase of 9.1 percent), other income (0.5 million manat with a drop of 89.4%).

As seen, increase in investment in January 2010 compared to the same period of last year is due to an increase in all investments, except the budget and non-budgetary funds.

Investment expenditure decreased from 4.7 billion manat to 3.5 billion manat due to the decrease in budget incomes.

According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee, private enterprises and organizations invested 221.3 million manat (55.1 percent of total investments) in Azerbaijan's economy and public enterprises and organizations - 180.0 million manat (45 percent). Major share of governmental investments are directed at implementing transport and infrastructure projects. Despite lingering crisis, work over the ongoing projects will continue.  

Investments in the oil sector made up 57.5 percent of capital investments to country's economy (230.8 million manat), non-oil sector - 42.5 percent (170.5 million manat).

The gross investments in the industry totaled 248.0mln manat with an increase of 33.7%. About 1.7mln manat was invested in the processing industry (-25.6 percent). During the reported period, the gross investments in the extractive sector composed 229.2mln manat, which is 70.1% less than investments in 2009. Generally, 61.8% of investments fell on the industrial sector.

Investment in electricity, gas and water sectors totaled 16.3 million manat (6.1 times), transport, storage and communications - 101.6 million manat (-26.3 percent), including 101.4 million manat (-26.4 percent) in transport and 0.2 million manat (2.6 times) in communications. Investments in operations with real estate amounted to 22.9 million manat (-3.4 percent), including in housing construction - 22.6 million manat (-3.9 percent). Investment in agriculture amounted to 4.6 million manat, decreasing 55.2 percent.

Investments for repair and construction works made up 54.3%, totaling 218.1 million manat. Investment for the construction of production facilities totaled 356.2 million manat (88.8%), while non-production facilities totaled 45.1 million manat (11.2).

Foreign investments with special weight of 54.4 percent amounted to 218.5 million manat. Internal investments with special weight 80.1 percent totaled 5163.2 million manat.

Great Britain continues to keep leading positions on amount of investments to Azerbaijan. Weight of the country in amount of foreign investments hit 60.5 percent in January 2010, state statistical committee said. British investments hit 132.3 million manat.  

Roughly 92.6 percent (202.5 million manat) of investments of foreign countries and the international organizations to the Azerbaijani economy fall on share of investors from Great Britain, the USA, Japan, Norway and Turkey.

The biggest amount of investments was allocated by WB in amount of 12.3 million manat with weight of 5.6 percent. WB projects cover different spheres of the country's economic life.
